Conditions We Treat
Disc Herniation & Bulging Discs
Disc injuries are frequently overtreated surgically. Many patients with confirmed herniations respond well to conservative chiropractic care. We’ll assess whether conservative care is appropriate and explain exactly why.
A disc herniation is not an automatic indication for surgery. The research is clear: the majority of lumbar and cervical disc herniations respond well to conservative care — including chiropractic — and many herniations resorb over time without intervention. The challenge is knowing when conservative care is appropriate and when it isn’t.
At Spine Bar, disc cases are taken seriously. We perform thorough orthopedic and neurological testing to establish severity, identify whether motor or sensory function is compromised, and determine whether chiropractic adjustment is indicated or contraindicated for your specific presentation. If your case requires imaging or specialist referral, we’ll say so directly.
When conservative care is appropriate, we use gentle, specific adjustment techniques that decompress the affected segment without aggravating the disc. Soft tissue work to the surrounding musculature reduces protective spasm and allows the spine to move more freely. Most disc patients see meaningful improvement within 4–6 weeks of consistent care.
Common causes
- Repetitive flexion and compression (prolonged sitting, lifting)
- Acute trauma or forced flexion
- Age-related disc dehydration
- Weak core and posterior chain support
- Prior disc injury or surgery
What to Expect
Your first visit for disc herniation & bulging discs
We assess disc cases conservatively and honestly. If you have imaging (MRI, X-ray), bring it. We’ll review it, perform our own orthopedic evaluation, and give you a clear picture of whether chiropractic care is the right next step. No pressure either way.
